National context
My issue is a national because there are organizations against police brutality and want just justice for those victims of police brutality all over the United States. For example an organization the National Police Accountability project (NPAP) it’s an organization to end police abuse of authority and provide support for grassroots and victims of police brutality. Police brutality happens in every state of United States, for example, in Tennessee a Sheriff fired an officer after a British newspaper published photographs on Sunday that showed the officer choking a handcuffed college student until he lost consciousness. The victim was a 21-year-old named Jarod Dotson who was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest. But he was already being arrested by two officers the third officer who is a 47-year-old Frank Phillips, came and choked him until he became consciousness. “Knox County Sheriff Jimmy "J.J." Jones” said in a written statement that Phillips was found by department investigators to have used excessive force during the arrest “after an investigation by the office of Professional standards, i believe excessive force was used in this incident,” the Sheriff said (Thehuffingtonpost.com Murdock Sebastian 05-12-2014). This officer was later terminated with immediate effect and the investigation would be turned over to the Knox County Attorney General’s Office to determine if any charges should be filed. For this case the police officer was terminated and looked into the investigation because of evidence from a newspaper but if they never caught them if probably would have never been looked into it. In another state in Charlotte, N.C Jonathan Ferrell 24, was shot multiple times after he was seeking for help after he was in a car accident (Buzzfeed.com 2014-05-12). The officer who had shot him was not indicted for shooting him because he said “He was given a description matched given by a women who had made report to 911 of a man knocking wildly on her front door and attempting to break in. Many people have taken this issue into organizations like NPAP to stop police brutality and pay the consequences, start addressing this issue to the world. Police brutality can be compared to animal abuse because both hurt one each other. For example if you were to hurt or kill an animal you would go to jail but if you were a police officer and you hurt a citizen or hurt them you just get a warning. They should start paying consequences like terminating them from the force, fire them have justice for the victims of police brutality.
